14 Mar Flying the nest – Yasmin and Luke's first home together
When setting off on their journey to buy their first home, Yasmin (23) and her partner Luke (28) were adamant that they wanted a new build. Already living in Verwood, the couple were well aware of Pennyfarthing Homes’ Potters Wood development in Verwood. They decided to visit the scheme and view a three-bedroom semi-detached Overwood home, and decided it was exactly what they were looking for.
Yasmin recalls what drove them to start their house hunting adventure: “We reached a stage in our lives that we felt ready to move into a place of our own – I recently started my new career as a teacher. We’ve lived in Verwood our whole lives and wanted to stay as we enjoy it here and our families are close by.”

Being so close to Potters Wood, Yasmin was keen to visit the scheme, and as she had been keeping such a close eye, she and Luke were one of the first people to view a newly finished Overwood.

After their viewing, Yasmin and Luke were set on moving into an Overwood, with a dedicated driveway and garage being key features of the large three-bedroom home. According to Yasmin, the size of the place did not disappoint: “We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the home, especially the kitchen, diner and living room. I hadn’t pictured them to be quite this size in my head, so we were taken aback by the amount of space on offer.”
The master bedroom was a definite highlight for the couple: “Our friends who had also bought a new home outside of Verwood had struggled to fit their new bed into their bedroom, but we recently bought a king size bed and getting it into the bedroom was quite simple – plus there was plenty of space in the room even with the bed in.”
Sometimes it feels like things happen for a reason, and Yasmin is convinced purchasing the Overwood is one of those times: “The Overwood we bought was the last available of this phase of Potters Wood – so it felt like it was written in the stars. We wanted it for months, and then, suddenly, it happened. It’s been a whirlwind, there’s a lot to get in order when buying a new home, but it’s been so exciting!”
Getting your own place for the very first time can be daunting, but Yasmin felt supported and informed by Pennyfarthing Homes throughout the process “They were excellent at reassuring us and making everything as smooth as possible. the customer care team were absolutely great – Jackie at the sales office has been amazing, being thorough with us and always available to talk to. When we first reserved our new home, we had the option to upgrade some elements, and I can be quite indecisive, so I went back nearly every weekend just to double check on my choices, and Pennyfarthing Homes were very patient and accommodating. When it all settled down and we exchanged contracts, they were emailing us every two to three weeks with building updates, and then finally on 1 October they got in touch to let us know we could move in during the month, so we never felt out of the loop.”
Having settled into their new home, Yasmin and Luke relax have been preparing for Christmas: “We’re going to keep it to just us two this year – our families will probably be happy to have some time alone! We’re going to visit my family in the evening, but we are really looking forward to having Christmas dinner between the pair of us in our new home. We usually like to walk to the pub to have a Christmas drink. There are a few great pubs in Verwood, and obviously we are local, so we know good places. We walked up to the pub from our new place for the first time yesterday – it’s just a 10-minute walk and it’s very picturesque.”
