Helping first time buyers who want to get onto the property ladder is a worthwhile cause, and one that Pennyfarthing Homes takes great pride in. So, when Tom (26) and Danielle (23) purchased their first home – a two-bedroom apartment in Maple House at Pennyfarthing Homes’ Potters Wood development in Verwood, Dorset – it was reason for celebration for all involved.

Tom and Danielle were looking for a home in between Blandford and Bournemouth, as that’s where they respectively work, and they also needed more space to live comfortably. The couple were originally looking for second-hand homes in the area although were struggling to find the perfect match. When they heard about another Pennyfarthing Homes development, Augustus Park, hosting an open day, they decided to visit and see what was on offer.

During their open day visit, Tom and Danielle spoke with a mortgage advisor that Pennyfarthing Homes had invited to the event. This proved to be the best decision that the couple could have made, as the advisor and Pennyfarthing Homes helped explain about the Help to Buy scheme – a government scheme to help first-time buyers buy a property with just a 5% deposit, making the prospect of home ownership a viable option for the couple.

Danielle explains: “So many of the second-hand homes we saw online were either in inconvenient locations for us or simply not what we were looking for from our first home. Visiting the Augustus Park open day transformed out perspective on what was possible, and Pennyfarthing Homes really went the extra mile to help us understand how we can take advantage of the Help to Buy scheme.”

The couple were impressed by the open day, as well as the helpfulness and knowledge with which Pennyfarthing Homes conducted themselves. It was after this event that Tom and Danielle decided to make an enquiry about a two-bedroom apartment in Maple House at Pennyfarthing Homes’ Potters Wood development – in the ideal location for the couple that provided them with the space they needed.

Tom elaborates: “We both have a lot of paperwork for work – Danielle is a primary school teacher so she often brings back her student’s homework, plus I’m an architect student, so there’s a lot of coursework I have too. Having a second bedroom gives us the extra space to create a study room so we can work in a more peaceful and dedicated work area. Furthermore, if we ever have friends or family staying over, we can make the second bedroom a comfortable space for them to sleep overnight.”

The couple continue by explaining how Pennyfarthing Homes helped guide them through the purchasing process, and why buying off-plan was a great decision: “We never thought we’d be in a position to buy, especially at our age, but Pennyfarthing Homes made it really simple for us as first-time buyers – the process was quite seamless. The sales team were also super helpful, they took us to the show home and were so enthusiastic and informative, they really sold it to us.

“After we made the decision to buy, Pennyfarthing Homes also kept us up to date on the state of the build every fortnight. As first-time buyers, not having this knowledge on hand can be a bit daunting, so we cannot recommend going through a developer like Pennyfarthing Homes enough – they’re always on hand to guide you and ensure you feel assured and informed.”

This was the ideal time for Tom and Danielle to take their first step on the property ladder with the Help to Buy scheme, as it ends soon. The government backed scheme is only available to First Time Buyers and is aimed to help those who may be struggling to save a deposit larger than 5%, but who could otherwise be expected to sustain a mortgage.

Potters Wood is just minutes from the centre of Verwood and is set within an idyllic setting so residents can enjoy the best of both worlds. The location of the development was a key decision maker for the couple: “Not only does Potters Wood make it much easier for both of us to commute into work and university, but Verwood is surrounded by gorgeous scenery. We’ve been planning to go to Moors Valley for a little while, and now it’s right on our doorstep! Plus New Forest National Park and Cranborne Chase AONB are so close by we’ll have plentiful opportunities to go out and explore this beautiful part of the world.”

Surrounded by two large SANG lands and just a short walk to Verwood town centre, Potters Wood offers a range of homes to suit everyone’s needs.
