Pennyfarthing Homes has teamed up with Hillside First School and the Trinity C of E VA First School in Verwood and Fordingbridge Infant School in Fordingbridge during Walk to School Week (20-24 May) to encourage pupils to increase their steps as part of a healthy lifestyle and promote the importance of safety when walking to school.

Pennyfarthing Homes, who are currently creating the Augustus Park development in Fordingbridge and will soon be building homes in Verwood, were pleased to support the pupils during the awareness week by gifting a number of high-vis jackets to the children to wear whilst walking to school, on school trips or partaking in outdoor activities.

Walk to School Week is a national campaign to encourage children and their families to build exercise into their daily routine. The initiative also has several environmental benefits including helping to reduce CO2 emissions, decrease traffic congestion and improve safety at the school gates.

Pennyfarthing Homes also gifted a number of high-vis jackets to Alderbury and West Grimstead School when a group of pupils paid a visit to The Orchards development in Whaddon earlier this year.

Lucy Seakins, Sales & Marketing Manager for Pennyfarthing Homes said: “With the summer term of nicer weather providing more opportunities to walk to school, it has been a real pleasure to help the pupils at Hillside First School, the Trinity C of E VA First School and Fordingbridge Infant School to stay safe and visible on the roads. The initiative is a great way to get both children and parents active and we hope the pupils make the most of them.”

Kim Robertson, Headteacher from Fordingbridge Infant School commented: “Walk to School Week helps to promote healthy living and environmental awareness, which we ensure the children are learning about and understanding as much as possible. It’s so important to encourage safety whilst promoting walking to school to ensure the children are safe so the high-vis jackets provided by Pennyfarthing Homes will be of great use to the pupils.”
